Kya Fedora-DeGarmo
DVM, DACVIM (CARDIOLOGY)
Dr. Fedora-DeGarmo began her journey towards Veterinary Medicine at the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo as a primate keeper, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She had recently graduated with a BS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado and was working with the veterinary staff at the zoo to help develop nutritious and interesting treats for the primate department. It was there that the zoo team, recognizing her love of the animal collection and her interest in the field, encouraged her to pursue the path. She decided to apply to the school that the zoo’s head veterinarian attended; Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Before heading off to Ross, she spent a summer as an intern at the Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary in Tasmania, Australia, under Androo Kelly, the owner and world renowned Tasmanian Devil expert.
After graduating Phi Zeta, from Ross University, she finished her clinical education at CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Fedora-DeGarmo complete an internship at the VCA Veterinary Care and Referral Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and remained on with VCA as an emergency care veterinarian. This is where she developed her interest in the field of Cardiology and decided to pursue this specialty. She completed her residency program at Washington State University, where she spent three years hands-on practice, while mastering her craft and furthering her love of cardiology.
Dr. Fedora-DeGarmo takes pride in her pet and client relations, realizing the importance to the families of every animal that needs cardiovascular care. Dr. Fedora-DeGarmo spends her free time with her husband, pups (Billie and Blue), and the king of the household, a ragdoll named Arlo. She enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, camping, and is forced to fish with her husband.
