About Us

At Focused Ultrasound Resources (FUR), our team is made up of certified diagnostic medical sonographers with 2 to 6 years of formal ultrasound education in human medicine, followed by rigorous certification and continuing education. We are committed to excellence in veterinary imaging and firmly believe that transitioning from human to veterinary ultrasound demands comprehensive training and mentorship.

To ensure the highest standard of care, all FUR sonographers must complete our internal FUR Academy, a 6 to 12-month program that covers veterinary anatomy, pathology, behavior, and species-specific differences. This program includes both classroom and clinical training, with competency exams required before performing studies independently in the field.

Beyond our clinical expertise, FUR sonographers are also experienced educators. Our team has served as instructors across both human and veterinary ultrasound settings, regularly teaching for major ultrasound companies and contributing to academic programs at leading veterinary institutions. We are proud to be active speakers at national veterinary conferences and frequently participate in online education platforms, sharing our knowledge to help advance imaging standards across the profession.

To support our imaging services, we partner with a team of board-certified veterinary radiologists and cardiologists, who are readily available for consultation and report review. Our collaborative model ensures accuracy, timely diagnoses, and streamlined communication between our sonographers and your clinical team.

Our mission is simple: deliver the highest quality imaging to support patient care, reduce unnecessary repeat studies, and help veterinarians make confident, informed decisions, while keeping care accessible and cost-effective for pet families.

Why ARDMS Registered Sonographers?

Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) are medical professionals that have gone to two or more years of intense education, clinical experience and registration exams to prove their proficiency in ultrasound. A sonographer's role in diagnostics includes proper use and optimization of ultrasound equipment to acquire the needed images and videos for diagnostic data. Sonographers are then responsible for writing up preliminary information and communicating findings and thoughts to the dictating physician. Sonographers have trained eyes in ultrasound, and can easily pick up on pathology that would often be missed. They know how to optimize their machines through their extensive knowledge of ultrasound physics. Because ultrasound is not a cut and dry imaging modality, sonographers have a strict responsibility in the decisions and methodologies that go into their imaging. Sonographers have dedicated their careers and education to ultrasound.

FUR Sonographer Credentials

Our RDMS sonographers are all required to be credentialed and maintain their credentials in ultrasound physics and abdomen. However, many also hold additional specializations in musculoskeletal, vascular technology, obstetrics and gynecology, breast, echocardiography, and/or pediatric ultrasound.

FUR Sonographer Experience and Requirements

All FUR sonographers have met a minimum requirement of one year in clinical experience, although many have spent 5+ years in human medicine at recognized, speciality, high-volume hospitals and imaging centers. Our sonographers have collectively published many peer-reviewed articles and educational material, served on ARDMS board writing committees, and have been ultrasound educators throughout the world. FUR requires a formal cross-training program for our sonographers to perform exams in veterinary medicine and they must have prior animal experience and animal first-aid and CPR certifications.

FUR Continuing Education

The credentialing agency, American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) requires continuing education in order to maintain their credentials throughout their career.
